APRS UI-View32

Automatic Position Reporting System (APRS)

Well since I have been an Amateur Radio Operator everyone has talked about APRS.  I’ve seen radios have it built in and I saw a few people even have little NetBook computers in their car tracking other on live over the radio APRS frequencies.  Then in 2011 I registered and was accepted to help out with the Courage Classic bicycle event in the mountains where they use APRS extensively.  The project started to get APRS working and operational as much as possible.

There are two versions of computerized trackers that can be installed on computers.  If you have a PC then you will want to have UI-Vew32 that runs on windows.  I have it running on XP and on Windows 7 without a problem.  I have it running also through Oracle Virtual Box and Windows XP on a MAC Book.

The other version of a tracker is Xastir.  It runs on MAC and Linux.  Supposedly it is able to install on a Windows machine with an emulator but I have not tried that.  Also if there is a VMWare player that can run the software.

Instructions for Setting up UI-View:

Visit: http://www.ui-view.org/

Download and run the installer: 32full203.exe

The first time you run the program you will be requested to register the program.  It will not work until you register.  Go to the following page and register: http://www.apritch.myby.co.uk/uiv32_uiview32.php?lang=english

This will give you a Registration Code you will need to be able to activate the software.
